🎯 Project Objectives

The main goal is to fight against desertification by planting drought-resistant trees, such as the cork oak or the carob oak⁸.

Other objectives include:

• Learning the tasks carried out in a nursery⁹.
• Raising awareness in schools about caring for the environment¹⁰.
• Improving leadership skills¹¹.
• Getting to know other cultures and languages¹².

💪 Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers will be involved in various activities concerning the nursery, including¹³:

• Expanding the nursery’s covered area from $300\text{m}^2$ to $600\text{m}^2$¹⁴.
• Installing an irrigation system for the cuttings¹⁵.
• Grafting carob seedlings¹⁶.
• Preparing seedlings of fruit trees (e.g., pomegranate, olive, quince, fig trees)¹⁷.
• Maintaining and fertilizing the nursery’s fruit trees¹⁸.
• Preparing organic compost and pesticides¹⁹.
• Participating in training workshops and dissemination activities^20202020.

🏠 Accommodation & Logistics

• Housing: Participants are hosted in a well-equipped house in Oumifiss village³⁵.
• Rooms: Rooms are for 2 or 3 people, separated by gender³⁶.
• Travel: Volunteers must fly to Marrakech for the on-arrival training, after which the group will travel to Oumifiss together³⁷.
• Weather (Guelmim in December): Average maximum temperature is $19^\circ\text{C}$ to $21^\circ\text{C}$, and the average minimum is $11^\circ\text{C}$ to $13^\circ\text{C}$³⁸.
